Readathon Hour 1 & Mini-Challenge

It’s Readathon time again!!! You know what that means… I’m going to be reading, tweeting, and blogging with 400 other readers today. And, there will be lots of blog posts (finally blog material!!).

The Hour 1 Mini-Challenge is always this little “getting-to-know-you” meme. I’m running out of different answers for these questions, but I think using last year’s would be cheating… so I’ll give it at try!

Where are you reading from today? The Hills of West Virginia. Fun fact: They’re currently filming a JJ Abrams/Steven Spielberg movie in my town. Very cool stuff!

Three facts about me: (1) I’m a freelance editor, and I’ve worked from home for 11 years… which has made me a little crazy! (2) My family is obsessed with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Yes, we know they’re the worst team in baseball. No, we really don’t care. (3) I like a little coffee with my cream and sugar… and thank God, it’s done brewing!

How many books do you have in your TBR pile for the next 24 hours? I don’t actually have a pile. I have TONS of book piles around my house, of course, but none specifically for the Readathon. And, I’m pretty sure that most of my reading will be done via my Sony Pocket ereader (new addition since the last Readathon!). I’m not sure how many books are on there at the moment… but enough to keep me busy!

Do you have any goals for the read-a-thon? I would like to spend more time visiting other readers’ blogs and leaving them comments. I’m not signed up to cheer, but I’m hoping to be an unofficial cheerleader for a bit today!

If you’re a veteran read-a-thoner, any advice for people doing this for the first time? This is my 4th Readathon, and I think my advice is always the same… have fun, don’t stress about anything, there’s no pressure (really!), take breaks, tweet a lot (Twitter on Readathon day is my very favorite part, I think!).

So, now that it’s officially Hour 2, I’m just getting around to posting the Hour 1 challenge… I’m a little “off” this morning. But, nothing a little coffee won’t fix! Have fun Readathoners!!! 🙂

  1. softdrink says:

    (Non)traditional Buddhist readathon blessing:

Just as the books fill the shelves,
Pile together on the floor and stack up on the table
So may the joy of the readathon
Flow forth to brighten your day and lift your spirit.
Books already read, books in progress and books yet to be read.

By the power of every word on the page
    May your book be delightful,
    As scary as Lovecraft’s Cthulhu
Or as sweet as a box of See’s candy.

Let the power of the images evoked by words
Keep you stay awake long through the night
    May no obstacle impede
    Your day filled with books.

For all of those who are reading today
Who follow in the path of Dewey
May your day be filled with the four blessings
Of fabulous books, tasty snacks, comfy chairs and joy.

  2. I just saw your tweet about word verification and wanted to let you know it’s not on your blog. It’s mostly blogger blogs that have it, I think.

  3. Word verification is mostly for Blogger blogs. 🙂 I love that you love the Pirates. I hope you have better luck this time around with the readathon.
