Eight Years

Nick and I were married 8 years ago today… on the hottest day of the year in a smalltown courthouse in Delaware.

Things have changed a lot in 8 years. We have one more child and two more dogs (and let’s not even talk about the number of dogs we’ve had along the way!). We’ve moved from Delaware to West Virginia to Maryland and then back to West Virginia again. I can’t even count the number of jobs Nick has had in the past 8 years and the ways in which those jobs changed our lives, for better or for worse. Collectively, we’ve gained over one hundred pounds, aged sixteen years, and lost one head of hair. The list of ways we’ve changed goes on and on…

But, in one way, Nick and I are exactly the same today as we were on this day back in 2001. For the past 8 years, we have remained 100% committed to each other, to our family, and to this marriage. That’s not to say we haven’t challenged each other along the way… because Lord knows we have. But the fact that we’re still here together today says a lot.

We’ve definitely learned that marriage isn’t all roses and laughter and one happy and/or romanticĀ  moment after another. We’ve cried, we’ve screamed, we’ve hurt, and we’ve been hurt… numerous times. But, through it all, we’ve never quit loving one another. And I’ve learned that love is, indeed, a powerful thing.

I love you, Witschey. Happy Anniversary!
